Start a PowerPoint, Word or Publisher file. You are going to create a portfolio to demonstrate all your knowledge on the Music Business. This will eventually be a revision resource for you to use for your exam, January 2015.
Research the following bullet points in good detail, using images and colour to help make your work presentable and dynamic. If there are any you don't understand, try researching them first. If you are still stuck, move onto the next bullet point.
- List 10 record labels with artists and genres
- Identify 5 Music magazines, music radio channels, and music TV channels. Link them to styles, genres and artists.
- Identify 3 concert promoters. List the services they provide
- Identify 3 distribution companies. List the services they provide.
- Look at examples of service companies e.g. studios, lighting, scenic hire, transport. Find examples of each and their costs
- Find examples of these different agencies: A&R, Financial management, Booking, Personal Management. List the services they provide
- Find out about these professional organisations: PRS, MCPS, Musician's Union, and Equity. Find out their roles and examples
- Choose one organisation to research in depth. List its functions. Name 3 examples.
